Mathilde de Castrone Marchesi (Melba’s teacher) was grandmother to Baron Podhragy, who had in Vienna inscribed books, letters, photos etc. relevant to the life of the singer. This address outlines her life from these, with a brief outline of events leading to the author’s discovery of them.
