  • Description

1 hour Pam Fulton trained as a nurse at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in the early 1950s and as part of that training spent time in the Da Costa Ward, the gynaecological ward at the back of the hospital where women who were suffering the consequences of illegal abortions were admitted. She recalls her memories of that ward – the women she nursed, her own attitudes and feelings and those of the other nurses and doctors, and the general ambience of the ward. Later in her career, Pam Fulton has worked with the Family Planning Association in South Australia and at Sydney’s largest free-standing abortion clinic.
