Hon Justice Elizabeth Evatt talks about the power of common law; the operation of a bill of rights; the review of the “Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage Protection Act”, which had just been completed and her work with the UN Human Rights Committee. She also talks about her career in law reform; her family background and schooling and her father’s influence on her decision to study law. Evatt discusses her work with the Law Reform Commission in London; the Conciliation and Arbitration Commission; heading the Royal Commission into Human Relationships and her work as the first Chief Judge of the Family Court of Australia.
