Summary

A lifelong political and social activist, Evelyn Barron served a full 12-year term in the Legislative Council of New South Wales (1964-76) as a member of the ALP. Prior to this she had unsuccessfully run as an ALP candidate for Collaroy in 1953.

Details

Evelyn Barron joined the ALP in 1938. She was a member of the Central Executive of the party from 1957 to 1964, and president of the Women’s Central Organising Committee in 1964.

She was President of the NSW Women Justices Association, 1958-60, President of the League of Women Voters, 1961-62. Evelyn Barron was also active in a number of other organisations including the Civilian Widows’ Association, the Good Neighbour Council, the NSW National Council of Women, and the Australian Women’s Charter Movement.
