Summary
Karen Fletcher is a political activist with a passionate interest in justice. She is a long-term member of the Democratic Socialist Party and stood in elections for the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for Marrickville (1995); the House of Representatives for Sydney (1996); and the Queensland Senate (in both 1990 and 2001).
Details
Karen Fletcher was a student when she ran for Marrickville. She wrote regularly for Refractory Girl and Green Left Weekly on women’s issues. In 2000, she was co-ordinator of the Prisoners Legal Service in Brisbane, and was a speaker at the Annual Conference of Community Legal Centres in Alice Springs in August of that year. In 2004, she joined the intern program of the Centre for Public Health Law and spent her second placement with the National AIDS Council of Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby.
