She was candid that her standing would assist in increasing the vote for the Australian Democrats candidates in the Legislative Council. In the event, she polled 2.2 % of the vote and ran last in a field of seven. Sharyn Csanki led the Australian Democrats team in the 2004 local government elections in Newcastle
