A member of the Liberal Party of Australia, Dorothy Kotz was elected as the Member for Newland in the House of Assembly of the Parliament of South Australia at the election, which was held on 25 November 1989. She held a range of ministerial appointments including Employment, Training and Further Education, Youth Affairs, Correctional Services, Environment and Heritage, Aboriginal Affairs, Local Government, Recreation, Sport and Racing, and Administrative and Information Services. She retired from Parliament at the 2006 election.
