Summary

A member of the Australian Labor Party, Carmel Zollo was elected to the Legislative Council of the Parliament of South Australia at the election, which was held on 11 October 1997. She was re-elected in 2006 and 2010. She is the first Italian-born female Member of the Legislative Council and was the first Italian-born Cabinet Minister in South Australia. She migrated to Australia with her mother and sister in 1957 to join her father who arrived in Australia in early 1952.
