Summary

Ivy Nelson served as a councillor for the Shire of Ballarat from 1974-92 and was its shire president from 1983-84. A strong advocate for childrens' services, she was the catalyst for the establishment of the first pre-school in the shire in 1957 and in the introduction of the Family Day Care scheme.
