At a National Triennial Meeting in Perth, Western Australia, the motion was put by Janet Galley OAM of Victoria that, to mark the 75th anniversary of the national body, the history of the National Council of Women of Australia (NCWA) should be researched and published. In 2008, we were fortunate to receive an Australian Research Council Linkage grant auspiced by the University of Melbourne to do so (LP088371 - Between State and World: A History of the National Council of Women of Australia 1931–2006). We are grateful to NCWA History Steering Committee comprising: historians Adjunct Professor Judith Smart of RMIT University and Principal Fellow in the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies, University of Melbourne, and Professor Emerita Marian Quartly of Monash University, Jan Hipgrave, research assistant, Sylvia Gelman AM MBE, Janet Galley OAM, National Adviser, Arts and Letters, NCWA, and (Chair) Leonie Christopherson AM, who have met regularly since to achieve this goal. This website is part of the on-going project and we thank all participants for their wise counsel and contribution.
