Leaflets, newsletters, invitations, posters, reports, and event notices relating to International Women’s Day events. International Women’s Day began as Women’s Day with the first women’s street demonstration held in New York on March 8, 1908. The first International Women’s Day was held on March 19, 1911 in Germany and other European countries, with the first IWD in Australia occurring in 1931. The aims of the march are to draw attention to women’s political and economic rights, for working towards international solidarity and peace, and as a day for celebration In 1950. The Union of Australian Women was formed and provided a new organisational focus for International Women’s Day.
