Summary
Elizabeth Gillam was the Queensland winner of the ABC Rural Woman of the Year Award for 1995.
A pioneer of women’s involvement in the Queensland Graingrowers Association, at the time she won the award, Elizabeth was Secretary of the South Eastern Zone of this organisation. She met with then Prime Minister Paul Keating on his drought tour of Queensland to discuss the problems facing the rural community. Her efforts contributed to the introduction of a drought relief package.
Elizabeth has a special interest in helping rural youth and children. She was a member of the Queensland Rural Youth Organisation and was a Queensland Graingrowers representative on the Rural Youth Advisory Council.
