Summary

Frances Hewett served as a councillor on the Hamilton City Council from 1956-71-74-77 and was its mayor from 1965-66 and again in 1975. Her community commitments included working for the National Trust, the Hamilton Art Gallery, Library and a number of concert committees. She was appointed MBE in 1975 in recognition of her community service. The Frances Hewitt Community Centre in Hamilton was named in her honour to acknowledge her contribution to her community.
