Summary
Mary Nenke was nominated for the 1997 A.B.C. Rural Woman of the Year Award, for the Great Southern district of Western Australia.
In 1990 Mary, who had been involved in primary industry for thirty years, her husband and six children forged ahead into a new venture – yabby farming. Cambinata yabbies started as a small affair but quickly developed into an enterprise that could support the direct export of yabbies to overseas countries.
Mary Nenke is a passionate campaigner for the bush and she has a regular audience with the country’s lawmakers through her spot on the regional women’s advisory council.
