Summary

A member of the Australian Labor Party until June 2009, Marion Scrymgour was elected as the Member for Arafura in the Northern Territory Assembly in 2001. She became the first female Aboriginal Minister in any government in Australia’s history. She held the portfolios of education, arts and Aboriginal affairs and was the Deputy Chief Minister before her resignation. She sat in the Assembly as an Independent from June 2009 until August, when she rejoined the Party.
