Summary
Lorraine Smith was New South Wales Winner of the ABC Rural Woman of the year Award in 1994.
Lorraine was thrown into the deep end of farm management of the family beef property in the NSW New England district in the mid 1980s when her aunt, uncle and father all died within the space of two years.
In the space of nine years she transformed the run down property into a financially successful Shorthorn Stud and tourism business. She used waterfall on the property to develop a hydro-electricity system that no only generates all the electricity for the farm and tourism business, but became a tourist attraction in its own right.
Lorraine was also heavily involved in industry organisations. She initiated the Ebor Beef Marketing Group and was an active member of the Ebor Land Protection Society. She was an active promoter of tourism in New England and shared the New England Country Retreats Association.
