Alice Pung was born in 1981 in Footscray, Victoria to Cambodian refugee parents. Her first book, the memoir Unpolished Gem, was published in 2006. In 2008, she edited Growing up Asian in Australia and in 2011 published her third book, Her Father's Daughter.
