Lyn Allison was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1946. She entered parliament as a senator for Victoria in 1996. She was deputy leader of the Australian Democrats from 2002 to 2004 and leader from 2004 to 2008. Allison lost her seat at the 2007 federal election. Since leaving politics, she has been a board member of organisations including Vision Australia, Berry Street and Alzheimer's Australia.
