Mary Salce was born in Cromvoirt, Holland. In 1976, she became the first female secretary of the United Dairy Farmers of Victoria. In the mid-1980s, she had a key role in forming the Rural Women's Network and in 1987 became a member of the board of the Victorian Dairy Industry Authority. In 1994, she became the inaugural president of the Foundation for Agricultural Women. In 2001, Mary Salce received the Centenary Medal for services to women and the rural sector.
