Laurene Dietrich was born in Mildura, Victoria in 1951. She worked as a teacher before moving into community development and social activism. She was actively involved in the first International Women in Agriculture conference as well as other activities supporting rural women.
In 2010, she enrolled to study visual arts at Warrnambool TAFE. Her work has since been exhibited at the Warrnambool Art Gallery and, in 2011, she won the Peter Lucas Memorial Art Prize for her work 'before I kick the bucket'.
