Sharon Connolly has worked in the Australian film and television industry for over 25 years. In addition to working as a writer, producer, script editor and director, she has also held various senior executive and board positions with Film Victoria and Film Australia Limited (now part of Screen Australia). From 1997 to 2004 she was the Chief Executive Officer and managing director at Film Australia, appointed 'at a time when the agency was faced with the possibility of privatisation following recommendations from an industry review' (Hollywood Reporter, 2003). Under her leadership, Film Australia secured continued funding through the Australian government. Connelly has described her proudest achievement as reasserting 'the idea of Film Australia as a community service' (as cited in FitzSimons, Laughren and Williamson 2011).
In 2013 Connolly was working as a story editor with ABC TV's program Compass and continuing to serve on the Board of Wide Angle Tasmania which she joined in 2005.
